Text Guides

A text guide and narrative accompanies every video lesson. Often times the educator will augment the material being presented in the video and so, you should review these text narratives whenever working with a video lesson.

Flash Control

TrueFire's lesson player is built with Flash to make it as compatible as possible with the widest range of compters and operating systems. You'll notice a group of drop-downs in the upper left-hand corner. These are native Flash controls. You really only need to be aware and use one of these controls;  under the "View" drop-down, you will find a "Full Screen" option - select that to expand the lesson player to full screen.

Tuner

The tuner is a handy little tool that you can use to tune your guitar to a variety of tunings:

Standard, DADGAD, DROP D, Eb, OPEN A, OPEN C, OPEN, D, OPEN E and OPEN G

Metronome

The metronome is another handy tool for you to use when practicing. You can control the tempo and select one of the following common time signatures:

2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/8 or 7/8.

Link Menu

The Link Menu on the lower left-hand side gives you quick access to the JAMBOX (200 practice rhythm tracks with lead sheets), the FORUM (where you can interact with other students, get answers to questions and access supplemental learning material), the STORE (TrueFire's main page), the SUPPORT area (help guides, knowledge base, technical contacts, etc.) and MY PROFILE (this is your TrueFire account page).

Power Tab

If you've not yet used an interactive tab and notation tool like Power Tab or Guitar Pro -- PLEASE take the time to learn how to and give it a go. Interactive Tab and Notation programs like these allow you to "see" and "hear" tab and notation played out, at any tempo, without any change in pitch. So, you can loop and slow down any section of the tab and notation to a tempo that you are comfortable with and then practice along with it, slowly building up to tempo. This is one of the most significant technological advance for students of guitar ever!

Power Tab charts can also be printed out and used as standard charts. Power Tab for Windows is totally free and an installer is included with your TrueFire course (please install before launching your course). If your course includes tab and notation, then corresponding Power Tab files are also included. Power Tab files can be imported into Guitar Pro 5 or higher, which is both Windows and Mac compatible and can be purchased and downloaded online from www.Guitar-Pro.com (many students purchase and use Guitar Pro because the inetrface is slicker and the sonic quality is better).

To open the Power Tab file for a particular video lesson, click the PTB button under the screen. IMPORTANT! Make sure you have Power Tab installed first!

Helpful Guides for Power Tab

Please note that the free Power Tab program is also a powerful editing program, which functionality you will likely not need to use or learn. So, if you're just going to play and work with th Power Tab files, you really only need to learn how to loop sections using repeat bars and adjust tempo. The following two links will teach you how to do both.

> Music Bars
> Tempo Markers

Tab & Notation (PDF Charts)

If your course includes tab and notation, then you will find that tab and notation on PDF files and will need Adobe Reader to view (you probably already have that on your computer or you can easily get a free version from http://get.adobe.com/reader/).  The PDF charts can be viewed on yoru screen or printed out.

To view the PDF chart for a particular video lesson, click the CHART button under the screen.

Jam Tracks

Many TrueFire video lessons also include a practice "jam" track, which is often the track that the educator uses in that lesson to demonstrate the lesson with. The Jam track allows you to practice the lesson over that same track but without the instructor's part. TIP! If you find that the tempo of the track is too fast at first, then you should practice the part at a slower tempo using the Power Tab file. Once you get the part up to speed and can play it accurately, then you can practice at tempo with the track.

To play the practice rhythm track for a particular video lesson, click the JAM button under the screen.
